engramogram
does anyone remember the PES they used to set up in big offices? phono-engram system? the engramogram? man
it was a huge thing back in the 80s when corps were getting really into The Connected World and all that shit, when you still had to write letters and use postage stamps lol. this was super revolutionary tho - it was a way to copy people's brainz!!
basically they would get you in this weird room and hook u up to one of those IBM mainframes, i think the ware was built for the 3084? and it'd put your neural emanations on tape. like im talking zeitgeist shit, not brainwaves but like, registering the shivering little veins that connect u to the noosphere and reading what's moving thru n just recording, recording, recording. the entire thing was set up like a victorian photo op lol, you'd just have to sit there thinking about work for half an hour it was probably AWFUL
anyway once the plug came out (oh man i didnt even mention the neck jacks execs would get, they were like fucking spinal taps) they'd just leave and the tape would be wound up for passing around between offices. like if u wanted someone's input on something you'd just load this big fuckoff reel into your fuckin fridge-sized vac-sealed tape reader and talk to the image thru a fucked up little telephone. the scary thing is that it sounded and talked exactly like em until the tape started degrading n you had to take a new recording
i dont really know what happened to the PES. i think they were experimenting with sending em via telephone at the time so maybe cash just dried up? doesnt help that the 308X was discontinued in 87
